Ellwin H. Rogers GOODING – Ellwin Rogers passed away Thursday, July 17, 2008. He was born June 14, 1918, in Bondad, Colo. At the age of 11, he moved to south-central Idaho with his family and has lived there since. In 1940, he met and married Luray Dodge of Carey. After living in Carey, Richfield and Shoshone for short periods, they landed in Gooding, where he has lived for the past 50 years. He enjoyed traveling and visited Mexico and a large portion of the United States. He found wonder and adventure in every trip, whether in the corn fields of Iowa, with the street vendors of Nogales or along the streams and beaches of Alaska and Hawaii. But his greatest joy was returning home to Gooding to be with family and friends. It is here that he and his beloved LuRay raised their family of nine children, quietly served his LDS Church community and farmed. His life was defined by his love of family and friends, his faith in Christ and an honest day’s work. We will deeply miss him as he passes from our presence through death into the arms of those loved ones waiting on the other side, and he accepts the invitation of his Savior, “Come unto my rest thou good and faithful servant.” The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, at the Gooding LDS Chapel, 1228 Main St. in Gooding. A short grave dedication service will be held at the Gooding Cemetery following the funeral. A viewing for family and friends will be from 12 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Demaray’s Gooding Chapel. The family would like to thank all the wonderful people who have helped Ellwin through the years. We especially want to thank the incredible staff and doctors of Gooding Hospital for their dedication and compassion.
